Rock Point, Tag 1 - Rock Point, Day 1

Wir haben uns dieses Jahr für die Missionsreise nach Rock Point die jährlich von unserer ehemaligen Kirche in Mesa, Victory Lutheran, durchgeführt wird. Eine Woche lang wohnen wir auf dem Gelände der Navajo-Evangelischen-Lutherischen Mission in Rock Point, Arizona zusammen mit alten Freunden aus unserer Kirche und helfen mit nötigen Reparaturen und der Sommerferienbibelschule für die ansäßigen Kinder.

Das Photo habe ich auf unserer Fahrt geknipst. Die Landschaft sieht so wie die Painted Desert (Gemalte Wüste) aus, hat aber schon einige Bergformationen die an das Monument Valley (Tal der Monumente) erinnern.

Da wir in Jeddito wesentlich näher wohnen als die anderen Teilnehmer, sind wir erst 3:30 nachmittags losgefahren und waren um 6:30 (7:30 Lokalzeit) trotzdem die Ersten. Um 8:30 Lokalzeit haben wir uns dann den Schlüssel zu den Bungalows besorgt und etwa um 10 Uhr abends kam der Rest der Gruppe an. Wir erfuhren, daß einem der Kinder das Reisen nicht bekam und viermal zur Brechpause (und zweimal zum Essen) angehalten werden musste.

Die Bungalows sind sehr gemütlich und einige haben sogar Internetanschluß. Ich habe vor jeden Tag einen Photoeintrag zu schreiben, falls ich vom arbeiten nicht zu müde bin... ;-)


This year we signed up for the annual mission trip to Rock Point organized by our former church in Mesa, Victory Lutheran. For one week, we will live together with old friends from our church on the premises of the Navajo Evangelical Lutheran Mission in Rock Point, Arizona and help with needed repairs and vacation bible school for the local kids.

I snapped the photo on our way up. The landscape looks just like the Painted Desert, but has rock formations that are reminiscent of Monument Valley.

As we live much closer in Jeddito as other participants, we only left at 3:30 pm and still arrived first at 6:30 pm (7:30 local time). At 8:30 pm local time we went and got the keys to the appartments and around 10 pm the rest of the group arrived. We learned that one of the kids did not travel well and that they had to stop four times for throw-up breaks (and twice for something to eat).

The appartments are very comfortable and some even have Internet. I am planning to write a photo entry each day, unless I am too tired from working... ;-)
